Kiko Network, together with the Japan Environmental Lawyers Federation (JELF), filed two petitions to the Japan Advertising Review Organization (JARO): a complaint regarding JERA’s advertisements filed on October 5, and a complaint regarding advertisements by Kansai Electric Power Co. and J-POWER filed on December 25. Both claims request a recommendation to cease these advertisements on the grounds that they mislead consumers into believing that electricity being supplied was generated without emitting CO2. Additionally, on December 25 Kiko Network submitted to JARO recommendations regarding how to strengthen its review system and improve the efficiency of its advertising review process.

However, we have not received any response from JARO so far. Therefore, Kiko Network and JELF have written to JARO inquiring about the status of the reviews of our complaints, the criteria for reviewing and judging greenwashing advertisements, and the status of consideration of our recommendations. We hope to receive a response from JARO by the end of May.
