We are pleased to announce the release of Kiko Network’s report “Japan Climate Vision 2050: An energy future independent of nuclear power and fossil fuels [Scenario projections]” which is based on joint research.

This report shows a vision for a sustainable climate, examines scenarios that accelerate energy efficiency measures and introduces renewable energy. This pays careful attention to the risk of climate change, nuclear power and fossil fuels. It shows that it is technologically possible for Japan to make drastic reductions in CO2 emissions. On top of that, it has been confirmed that it is feasible to move away from both nuclear and coal dependency. The contributors of this report conclude that this is the path post-Fukushima Japan should take.
In the summer of 2014, Kiko Network plans to release a compilation of policies and measures that should be taken to realize the goals in the report.
Based on the results of the report, Kiko Network calls for a reconsideration of the energy policy mentioned in the Basic Energy Plan and will continue working to set ambitious climate change targets and related policies and measures.
